The links
Every door, on one page
This is the page of links. The house rule is that you type a name and never a number, so every link here is a name. Four doors answer today. Everything else on this page is marked Being built, Planned or Undecided — with a reason next to each mark, because “coming soon” on its own is marketing, not information.
A link is a door, so we publish one only when the thing behind it has a login, a person who owns it, and a switch to turn it off. A service linked before its login exists is a door with no lock, and every door that opens “just for a test” is still open in three years. So the honest answer to where is the audiobook link? is: it is not built yet, and that is on purpose, not an oversight.
01Open today
Every link below was fetched from outside the house on the day this page was written. Live — Jellyfin answers today · Working today running and in use, not finished · Being built working, not finished · Planned designed, not built
Films & television Live — Jellyfin
Our own shelf: 554 films, 47 series and 4,014 episodes on our own disks — 10.5 TB of it. Nothing rented, nothing that quietly leaves the catalogue next year. It plays on the television, a tablet, a laptop and the phone in your pocket, and it works away from home as well as inside the house.
What you do: sign in with your family login, press play. If a film will not start on an old device, the server re-shapes it while you watch — that is the machine’s work, not yours.
Open the film shelf → 🔑Your login Working today
One login, one password — and it is the login the film shelf uses as well, so signing in here is what gets you into the films. The plan is that it opens every door that needs one, so you never keep a second account for a second app.
What you do: get an account from Cody, then sign in here once. There is no “sign yourself up” button, on purpose: accounts are made by a person, so nobody joins a family house uninvited.
Sign in → 📟What is up and what is down Working today
One page that says it plainly: 18 checks, every one green on the day this page was written. Alerts go to our family channel for the serious things only — a watcher that pings for everything is a channel nobody reads.
What you do: look here before you blame the Wi-Fi. Green page, red app: the problem is the device, not the house.
Check the board → 💜This site Working today
The address says test. because it started as a test and has not been renamed; the plain name at the top of the house is on the list below. Until then, this is the address to bookmark.
What you do: bookmark it, read the tour. Nothing here asks you to install anything, and nothing here prints a password, an address, or a port.
Start at the welcome page →02Coming soon, in the order they will get a link
These are built, running, and have no address of their own yet. The right-hand column is the honest reason, in the order they will be opened.
| The door | State | What has to be true before it gets a link |
|---|---|---|
| Audiobooks & ebooks the name it will get is books.mothyfamily.uk |
Being built | The software runs and the shelves exist on our own disks. It needs its two shelves switched on, one account for each person who wants it, and the bookmark-per-person promise proven on a real book — that is the whole point of it, so it gets proven before the link goes up. |
| Ask for a film by name the name it will get is request.mothyfamily.uk |
Being built | The request page runs, and the finders, sorters and fetchers around it run. The blocker is not the software: the finder accounts are the ones lost in the rebuild, and only the records a person keeps have them. No link until a search can actually find something. |
| A chat with our own AI the name it will get is chat.mothyfamily.uk |
Being built | The chat page runs with no AI connected to it, on purpose — connecting a model is a decision about cost and about who may ask, not a plug to fit. The helpers answer on our own machines today. When the family chat gets its model, it gets one that cannot spend money, reveal a password, or delete a thing without a human. |
| Game servers you start and stop yourself | Being built | The games machine runs today. Its control room is a page on a panel someone outside the family set up, on a machine we do not fully control, so it moves to a panel we host with our own accounts. The move is scheduled with the person whose servers live there: the games layer is the one place where a change touches other people, so it is never dropped on a schedule. |
| Books read aloud in a chosen voice | Planned | The voice machine is measured and proven on our own hardware, and samples of every voice are recorded for anyone to hear. The shelf around it — pick a book, pick a voice, press play — is not built. Which voice wins is a family decision, not a technical one. |
| The family photo shelf | Undecided | Very doable, and not in the plan yet, because it needs decisions about space, and about which albums stay private between family members. Say the word and it goes in. |
| The plain name at the top of the house mothyfamily.uk itself, with no test. in front of it |
Planned | The plain name does not answer today. Renaming is a small job, and it waits for the same hands that set the names — which are ours, not a machine’s. |
Nothing on this page has a deadline, and every status here is a snapshot of a build in progress, not a promise. A door opens when four things are true: it has a login, an owner, a copy of the things it cannot rebuild, and a human who can switch it off. When any of those changes, this page changes on the same day: a stale claim on a family site is worse than no claim. So the links are re-fetched from outside the house every time this page is rebuilt, and the numbers are read from the machines’ own records, not from a plan.
03The parts that will never have a link
Saying this out loud is the point. The honest version of “we have a lot of machinery” is “most of it is plumbing, and plumbing stays behind the wall”.
Plumbing, on purpose
The downloader, the finder, the sorter, the subtitle fetcher, the tidy-upper, the archive extractor, the machine that watches the watchers: none of them get a public door, ever. They have addresses, and this site will never print them.
A workbench is not a service
The panel that starts containers, the control room, and the identity board are places we work, not things you use. They sit behind the front desk, behind a login. “Your own page to start a game server” is a family page; the machinery that runs it is not.
If a page shows you a number
No address, port, password, account name, setting, or way-into-the-house appears anywhere on this site, on purpose. If a page ever does show you one, that is a bug — tell us, and it comes down the same day.
04What you can open today
Sign-ups are not open today, and that is deliberate — accounts are made one at a time by Cody, so nobody joins the house uninvited. Sign-ups open when alpha testing finishes, and each of you gets your own account: your own place in the book, your own shelf, your own helper. No page on this site will ever ask you to install software to get any of it, and no page will ever ask you to type a number.
Two of the undecided things above are genuinely yours to answer — the photo shelf, and which voice reads our books aloud. The third is how much you want to be told: a monthly “here is what is new”, or silence until something breaks. Say the word on any of them and it changes the plan.
Every link marked Live — Jellyfin was fetched from outside the house, every number above came from the machines’ own records, and the statuses were read off the status board, not from a plan. The checking is done by Luna, our own AI helper, and a human reads the result before it goes up. If a link on this page stops working, that is a bug: tell us.
